One Ghanaian soldier who sustained serious injuries from two missile attacks at the Ghana Battalion Headquarters in Southern Lebanon has been medevacked to Beirut, where he has undergone surgery.
The soldier is said to have suffered injuries to his hip and both legs.
“He is stable and recuperating,” Deputy Minister of Defence Ernest Brogya Genfi wrote in an update to Friday’s attack.
He noted that in all four soldiers, unlike the earlier reports of two, sustained minor injuries and recovering as well.
“Unfortunately, fifteen officers lost all personal effects due to a fire at outbreak at their accommodation,” he disclosed.
Ghana has since lodged an official complaint at the UN Headquarters in New York over the incident.
The Deputy Defence Minister disclosed that France’s Minister delegate to the Minister of Armed Forces and Veterans Affairs has reached out in a telephone conversation to convey support.
Alice Rufo, according to Mr Brogya Genfi, indicated France has similarly raised concerns at the UN Headquarters as their soldiers are also deployed there.
