Following the confirmation of 641 new infections as of Monday, July 6, Ghana’s cumulative cases of coronavirus since its outbreak in March is 23,463.
This was made known by the Director General of the Ghana Health Service (GHS), Dr Patrick Kuma-Aboagye, at the bi-weekly Ministry of Information update on Thursday, July 9.
Dr Kuma-Aboagye said so far the Greater Accra Region, the Ashanti Region, the Western Region and the Central Region are the four hotspot regions, recording a total of 89.7 per cent of all cases confirmed so far.
He said a total of 18,622 patients have been treated and discharged though some are on course for full recovery.
So far, he added, the country has 4,717 active cases, out of which 26 are in “severe” conditions and eight in “critical” conditions.
Six are said to be on ventilators.
So far, 129 persons have died from the virus.
Dr Kuma-Aboagye was concerned that many are not taking the safety protocols seriously, cautioning that prevention must be at all times.
He said those who contract the disease at the work place are same who infect families at home and in schools.
Ghana first recorded its two index cases of the virus on Thursday, March 12.
