The Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) has issued a public notice mandating the certification and registration of all Environmental Management Practitioners in Ghana, in accordance with the Environmental Protection Act, 2025 (Act 1124).
Under Section 31(1) of the Act, the EPA is tasked with certifying individual experts and firms providing environmental management services, and maintaining an official register of authorised practitioners. The register will be published on the EPA website (www.epa.gov.gh
) and in the Environmental Bulletin, as stipulated by Section 167 of the Act.
The Authority emphasised that certified practitioners will be expected to comply with approved environmental management systems and strategies, with ongoing monitoring to ensure adherence, as empowered by Section 32 of the Act.
The notice serves as an advance advisory to stakeholders, signalling upcoming requirements for training, applications, and detailed guidelines for certification and registration. Practitioners are urged to take note and prepare for compliance.
For further information, the EPA has made available contact channels including email (client.relations@epa.gov.gh) and phone (0506694760 / 0507227726). Additional details will be communicated on the EPA website.
The initiative marks a significant step in professionalising environmental management in Ghana, ensuring that practitioners operate under recognised standards and promoting accountability across the sector.
