Government has met independent power producers (IPPs) as well as gas producers to come out with a sustainable strategy to ensure a viable energy sector.
According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Finance on Monday, the current energy structure poses serious financial risks to the economy.
The meeting had representatives of the Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Energy in attendance.
At the said meeting, it was agreed that an initial three-month consultation process begins in earnest.
“The consultation will provide a forum for stakeholders to contribute to government’s energy strategy,” the statement signed Chief Director of the Ministry of Finance Patrick Nomo said.
It said government is committed to achieving security of electricity supply and sustainable generating capacity as part of Ghana Beyond Aid.
It further said the generating capacity must offer reliable and affordable power for Ghanaians and their businesses while providing investors with attractive opportunities.
“As a result, government continues to promote policies to a regime of competitive tariffs, growth of strategic industries and universal access to power.”
The gas sector will also be developed, the statement noted.
