Linda Ocloo, Greater Accra Regional Minister and Member of Parliament for Shai Osudoku, has donated 10,000 Ghana cedis to support the recovery of an eight-year-old pupil at St. Olives Grammar Boarding School who was reportedly abused by her housemistress.
The child, a Class Two student, sustained severe injuries after her legs were allegedly forced into hot water as punishment. The incident has sparked public outrage and calls for urgent action to protect children in boarding schools.
Minister Ocloo assured Ghanaians that justice for the pupil is guaranteed, stating that the case is being closely monitored. “Trust me, she’ll get justice. That one there is an assurance,” she said. She further emphasised that the school would be closed completely, citing complaints from neighbours about the treatment of children there. Parents have been urged to withdraw their wards immediately. “If you have your ward there, please go and take care,” she said.
The Regional Minister added that she would liaise with hospital authorities to ensure the girl receives proper medical attention, noting that maximum focus should be placed on her recovery. “Better for them to admit her for now so that maximum attention will be on her,” she said.
To support the family, Ocloo personally contributed 10,000 Ghana cedis, which will cover transportation, medical expenses, and other immediate needs. She encouraged authorities to provide regular updates on the girl’s condition and pledged to follow up through the regional education director.
The donation comes amid heightened scrutiny of boarding school practices in Ghana, highlighting concerns over child protection and the accountability of school management. Minister Ocloo’s intervention underscores the government’s commitment to safeguarding vulnerable children and ensuring timely support for victims of abuse.
