Greater Accra’s Naa nails it; crowned GMB 2020 queen

Greater Accra Region’s Naa, full name Naa Dedei Botchwey, has been crowned the 2020 Ghana’s Most Beautiful winner.

The former student of Central University and the Ghana Institute of Journalism beat Ahafo Region’s Abena to the car, crown and GH¢2,000 more as she received a cheque for GH¢10,000 as her cash prize on Sunday, September 20.

Volta Region’s Kafui came third while Northern Region’s Zuzu was fourth. Upper East Region’s Talata and Central Region’s Afriyie were fifth and sixth respectively.

It was a night of glitz and glamour as the final of the most popular beauty reality show in Ghana was held inside TV3‘s Studio B for the time in many years.

It was held under strict Covid-19 protocols.

Notwithstanding, Naa ensured that the crown returned to the capital region from the Central Region, whose Ekua Mends Bannerman won in 2019.

Naa’s performance began as the fifth on the night as the finalists, in the first round, advocated the need for unity without recourse to one language.

She pressed home the fact that Ghana already has whatever it needs for development “and the key to the nation’s development is our attitude and mindset and not nationalizing one language.”

Naa in the first round

She continued in the second round, which was themed peace ahead of the elections, as a victim of electoral violence.

She emphasised that if the citizens are together, democracy will thrive.

“Our democracy should work, our peace depends on us and let us rise above and let us stand together.”

Naa in the second round

In the third and final round, she answered a question on the state of the Free Senior High School programme of the current government, a promise much talked about by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) while in opposition.

The three-time Star Performer in this year’s show gave thumbs-up to the programme but called for the smoothening of the rough edges as regards the double-track policy that it has degenerated to.

At the end, Naa got the crown, from heaven, as the enveloped results dropped from the skies.

Aside that piece of silverware and the car, she will also embark on an all-expense-paid trip to Dubai, one year free supply of GTP products and a year’s supply of airtime from AirtelTigo.

First runner-up Abena gets GH¢8,000 as her cash prize.

Ahafo’s Abena is the first runner-up
Kafui receives GH¢6,000 as 2nd runner-up
Norther Region’s Zuzu gets GH¢4,000 as 3rd runner-up
Upper East Region’s Talata got the fourth position and walks away with GH¢2,000
Central Region’s Afriyie was sixth and also gets GH¢2,000

The final was graced by award-winning musicians KiDi, Praye, Adina and Mentor Reloaded winner Optional King, who set the stage alight with their performances.
