The Ghana Tourism Authority said Monday it is assessing the weekend incident at the Amedzofe Canopy Walk, where several visitors were injured after a reported structural mishap on the walkway.
According to officials, the Authority’s Volta Regional Director visited the attraction shortly after the incident to gather first-hand information and engage site managers on what led to the disruption. No fatalities were recorded, but management confirmed that some patrons sustained varying degrees of injury.
Following the regional assessment, Ghana Tourism Authority CEO Maame Efua Houadjeto visited the injured victims to offer sympathy and reaffirm the Authority’s commitment to ensuring their full recovery. She met with affected families and assured them that visitor safety remains a core priority for the sector.
“Our thoughts are with every victim and every family affected by this unfortunate incident,” Houadjeto said. “Tourism must be safe and dependable, and we are committed to ensuring that all safety lapses if any are fully addressed. Your wellbeing matters to us.”
During the visit, the CEO also provided a cash donation and essential supplies to support the victims as they undergo treatment.
The Authority said it is closely monitoring investigations being conducted by the appropriate regulatory and security agencies. Officials noted that findings from the probe along with any required corrective or safety measures will be communicated publicly once concluded.
GTA emphasized that it remains resolute in strengthening safety protocols across tourist sites nationwide. The agency said it will continue working with attraction operators, local authorities and industry stakeholders to reinforce standards and protect the credibility of Ghana’s tourism experience.
The Authority urged the public to remain calm and assured travelers that improving safety systems across all attractions remains an active and ongoing priority.
