Ghana Premier League giants Accra Hearts of Oak have apologised over incident that followed their 1-0 loss to Asante Kotoko on the rescheduled Matchday 5 game on Sunday.
Right after the blast of referee Reginald Collins Amoah’s whistle, the Phobian players rushed onto the officials apparently in protest of a disallowed goal.
Key among them was Mohammed Hussein, who was prevented by security officials as he charged on the officials.
But the club’s management appears unhappy about the players’ action.
“Following the conclusion of that match, we acknowledge with deep regret the unfortunate scenes that unfolded after the final whistle,” the club’s management said in a statement on Monday, November 10.
“These moments do not reflect the values we uphold as a club – values rooted in discipline, respect, and the spirit of fair play.
“We unreservedly apologize to the Ghana Football Association, the match officials, our fans, and the general public.”
The club assured that immediate steps are being taken to reinforce the commitment to maintaining integrity in the game.
“As part of our internal response, we have initiated disciplinary processes concerning the player involved.
“These steps are being taken to ensure accountability, uphold our standards, and prevent future occurrences.”
It acknowledged that football is a game of passion but must always be governed by respect.
The statement expressed gratitude to fans of the club who turned up in their numbers for the game.
Hearts of Oak are currently 5th on the log with 16 points, two more than Asante Kotoko, who have three games in hand.
