The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) has officially launched Highlife at 100, a landmark cultural initiative commemorating 100 years of Ghana’s most influential musical genre.
The launch, held at the La Palm Royal Beach Hotel in Accra, brought together Highlife legends, creatives, policymakers and industry leaders to celebrate the genre’s enduring role in shaping Ghana’s national identity and global cultural influence.
Delivering the keynote address, GTA Chief Executive Officer Maame Efua Houadjeto described Highlife as “the soundtrack of Ghana’s national journey,” stressing that the centenary is not only a nostalgic celebration but a strategic intervention to boost cultural tourism and strengthen the creative economy.

The event featured captivating live performances by Pat Thomas, Pozo Hayes, Amanzeba Nat Brew, Adina, Asabea Kropper resplendent in her iconic Kente and the Bessa Band. A symbolic performance by Gideon Ayequaye, Executive Director of Creative Arts, underscored the continuity of Highlife across generations.
A solemn minute of silence was observed in honour of departed Highlife icons, with a special tribute paid to the late Daddy Lumba for his immeasurable contribution to Ghanaian music and popular culture.
Also present were GTA Board Chairperson Emefa Donkor, Board Member Prince Anthony Bart-Appiah, and Chief Executive Officer of Empire and the EIB Network, Nathan Anokye Adisi, popularly known as Bola Ray.
Highlife at 100 affirms Ghana’s place as the undisputed home of Highlife—past, present and future—while positioning the genre as a living cultural asset with global relevance.
