The first batch of trainees

Huawei has launched an ICT talent ecosystem programme to develop Ghana’s ICT talent pool while giving the country’s industry the opportunity to enhance and polish their ICT skills to meet the increasing domestic and global demands.

The training centre, located at the Customer Service Innovation Center (CSIC) of Huawei headquarters in Ghana, will commence its first class with 21 trainees from Huawei’s local partners in Ghana.

They include MTN Ghana, Vodafone Ghana, AirtelTigo Ghana, IPMC and National Identification Authority (NIA).

The trainees will be taking the IP (Internet Protocol) HCNP (Huawei Certified Network Professional) Certification course which will see them become certified Huawei IP HCNP professionals.

As part of this programme which will run from December 3 to 9, Huawei will be carrying out several ICT certification programmes including the Huawei ICT Academy for university students and industry practitioners, providing industry recognized certification HCNA, HCNP, HCIE, across extensive ICT technologies, such as Routing; Switching, Storage, Cloud Computing, Security, etc.

The programme is opened to all students from Ghanaian universities as well as industry players in the ICT ecosystem.

In addition to the initiative, Huawei is also planning to organize events including an IP Competition and IP Club for tertiary students to promote a greater understanding of and interest in ICT while providing career defining opportunities to the students and professionals alike.

Huawei Ghana MD,  Mr. Tommy Zhou, said Huawei is launching the platform to demonstrate that the young ICT talents in Ghana have the potential to become world-class experts.

“Today, Huawei is reiterating our commitment to working even more closely with partners across the continent to better equip the next generation of technology leaders. By enhancing industry-academic cooperation, Huawei as an international ICT Company, hope to make their contribution to the ICT development in Ghana to pave way to achieving a Smart Ghana,” he addedDeputy Minister of Communications, Mr. Vincent Sowah Odotei who joined Mr. Tommy Zhou to officially unveil the Huawei ICT Training Center also said the government is keen on ICT development and commended Huawei for the initiative.

He urged the trainees to take the programme seriously to enable them use whatever they learn to add up to the ICT development in Ghana.

Ghana just finished the National Finals of the 2018-2019 Huawei ICT Skill Competition last weekend with selected ICT and Engineering students from KNUST, University of Ghana, Ghana Technology University and Accra Technical University taking part.
