Director General of the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) of the Ghana Police Service Maame Tiwaa Addo-Danquah has said she will not resign from her position over the three Takoradi kidnapped girls case.
Her response comes on the back of calls by some Ghanaians for her to resign over the ‘unprofessional’ manner in which she has handled the case involving the three girls.
The three girls, who went missing in July 2018, are yet to be found despite assurances from the police that they were on top of issues regarding investigations.
In April this year, Maame Tiwaa Addo-Daquah assured the public the police knew the whereabouts of the three girls.
Months down the line, however, the girls are nowhere to be found.
This has resulted in some people calling for the CID boss to resign for not being truthful, and failing to ensure the girls are found.
It is on the back of these developments that she has responded to critics, stating she is going nowhere.
Speaking at a Commonwealth Speaker series forum in Accra on Wednesday, August 14, Maame Tiwaa Addo-Danquah said she did not apply for her position, hence it will be inappropriate to resign.
“I don’t need to resign, resigning is like resigning from the Ghana Police Service, so it’s not something that I have to resign and say I can longer be a Director General CID, it is an appointment; it is like posting transfer.
“So I have to be transferred, when the time comes for me to be transferred, I will be transferred, I will be taken from the police service,” she noted.
She further stated that she will stay to ensure investigations into the kidnapping matter is concluded.
“When you have everybody calling for your resignation, the question that you need to ask yourself is that is that the on that will solve the problem?
“There is a problem for us to solve, and that is my focus. I have to focus and bring whatever situation that we have at a very conclusive stage, not to waste your time as to whether you want to resign or not to resign. When it’s time for me to leave, I will leave,” the CID boss explained.
The Commonwealth Speakers Series, which was held at the British Council in Accra, was under the theme: ‘Securing Our Countries from Terrorism and Kidnapping – the commonwealth approach’.
