Police have deployed reinforcement teams and armoured vehicles to Nalerigu and surrounding communities in Ghana’s North East Region following violent incidents that left two houses burned and raised fears of further attacks.
The Inspector-General of Police ordered the deployment after reports that some youth set the houses ablaze in the regional capital and issued threats to burn additional properties and assault residents. The move is aimed at restoring calm, protecting lives and property, and strengthening security in the affected areas.
According to police, the reinforcement teams will also enforce the government-imposed curfew on Nalerigu and its environs, while supporting the North East Regional Police Command to maintain law and order. Additional patrols have been mounted on major highways in the region to ensure the safety of commuters and prevent the spread of violence.
Police authorities said the presence of armoured vehicles is intended to deter further unrest and provide rapid response capability should the situation escalate. Residents have been urged to remain calm, comply with security directives and cooperate with law enforcement agencies.
The police assured the public that investigations into the attacks and the burning of the houses are ongoing. Individuals found to have participated in the violence, or to have incited others, will be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
The North East Regional Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding peace and security in Nalerigu, calling on community leaders and residents to support efforts to restore stability. Authorities stressed that sustained calm is essential to protect lives, preserve property and maintain public confidence as security operations continue.
