Two goals in each half gave Japan a 2-0 win over the Black Stars in the Kirin Challenge Cup game played on Friday, November 14.
The friendly was the first since 2022 when the two sides met, also in the Kirin Cup.
Otto Addo, who was in charge then, paraded a slightly different line-up for the game.
He gave former West Ham United goalkeeper Joseph Anang his debut as the St Patrick’s Athletic shot stopper was in post for the first time for the national team.
Jonas Adjetey and Jerome Opoku paired in central defence while Caleb Yirenkyi and Derrick Kohn also helped out from the backs.
Kwasi Sibo, Kojo Oppon Peprah, Kamaldeen Sulemana and Francis Abu, who was stretchered off after a hard tackle in the second half, played in the midfield.
Antoine Semenyo and Brandon Thomas-Asante led the attack.
Takumi Minamino scored after a quarter-of-an-hour play to give the Samurai Blue their first goal.
Ritsu Doan made it 2-0 a minute to the hour mark, finding the near post to put the game beyond the Ghanaians.
Ghana’s next match will be on Tuesday, November 18 against South Korea.
