Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has conferred a Honorary Doctor of Science (DSc) on Dr. Ben K.D Asante, the former Chief Executive Officer of Ghana Gas.
A distinguished alumnus and a world-renowned oil and gas certified engineer, Dr. Ben K.D Asante demonstrated exceptional dedication to the advancement of KNUST and the Engineering Profession and contribution to humanity, academia and selfless devotion to Ghana. The event was graced by the Vice President of Ghana, Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, Chancellor of KNUST Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Ashanti Region Minister Dr. Frank Amoakohene, captains of industry, academia and other dignitaries.Speaking at the event, the KNUST Vice Chancellor stated that the honour was not only a celebration of an accomplished alumnus but also a reaffirmation of the University’s commitment to driving national transformation through academic excellence, technology, and strategic partnerships.According to the KNUST, Dr. Ben K.D. Asante has provided engineering services, project management and technical support for various projects to internationally reputable institutions such as the World Bank and Asian Development Bank. In October 2023, at the invitation of the United Nations, Dr. Ben Asante made a remarkable presentation on Africa’s Energy Transition options at UNCTAD’s Experts forum on Energy.“Ghana benefited tremendously from your expertise as the technical director of its first Gas Infrastructure Project, responsible for Engineering, construction and Operations.” Dr. Ben Asante is on record to have developed the Gas Infrastructure Master Plan for Ghana, working with the Energy Commission and the Ministry of Energy. The prestigious honour was conferred by the Chancellor, His Royal Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, and supported by the Vice Chancellor, Professor (Mrs.) Rita Akosua Dickson, during the climax of the University’s 59th Congregation ceremony on Saturday, November 29, 2025, in Kumasi.
