The Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Iddie Adams, has applauded the Ghana American Football Federation and the National Football League (NFL) for their continued investment in grassroots sports following the successful 4th Annual NFL FLAG Championship held at the University of Ghana Rugby Stadium over the weekend.
The championship featured competitions in the Under-12 Co-Ed and Under-14 Boys and Girls divisions, with Nima 1 Basic School winning both the U-12 Co-Ed and U-14 Girls categories, and St. Kizito Basic School emerging champions in the U-14 Boys category.
The tournament forms part of a broader effort to expand flag football development across Ghana, reaching over 30 schools nationwide since 2022.
Kofi Adams commended the NFL delegation and federation executives for introducing teacher education components and ensuring a sustainable pathway for talent development.
He reaffirmed government’s commitment to supporting all emerging sports through inclusive policies and partnerships.
“We appreciate what you are doing and want you to do more. Please know the Ministry is ready to support your efforts,” he said.
Ghana remains the first country in Africa to host a structured NFL FLAG programme, supported by professional players such as Brian Asamoah and Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah, as well as the Philadelphia Eagles, who are actively promoting grassroots American football in the country.
