Former Ghana international Laryea Kingson believes elder sibling Richard ‘Olele’ is the best man for the Black Stars’ goalkeeping coach role.
With the appointment of Kwesi Appiah as new coach, reports suggest the four-time African champions will have an entirely new backroom staff.
Olele, who was Ghana’s first choice at the 2006 and 2010 World Cup tournaments, is favourite to land the goalkeeping coach role, with Stephen Appiah reportedly lined up for the team manager position.
“Since he [Olele] retired, the Black Stars team has never seen any good goalkeeper like him again,” Laryea told Abusua FM.
“You need such a man in your team.
“I think the perfect man for the team manager job is Stephen Appiah – remember a lot of the guys respect him and are looking up to him.
“With the respect they have for him, I don’t think any boy can disrespect or misbehave in camp.
“I think the former Black Stars players should be given the chance to work in the team. It will help us a lot.”
Olele made 90 appearances, incredibly scoring in a 1-1 draw with Tanzania in an international friendly in 2008.
During his heyday, the 38-year-old played for English clubs Blackpool, Wigan Athletic and Birmingham City.
