Deputy majority chief whip, Moses Anim has urged Ghanaians to nurture a spirit of patriotism towards nation building and join in the fight against corruption in the country.
“If we need to see ourselves as Ghanaian then we will be unified under one flag and segregation will end. We will have our personal interest succumb to the national interest,” he added.
Mr Anim was speaking at the re-launch of an advocacy group, Patriotic Professionals Integrated that is dedicated to championing patriotism.
Formerly known as Patriotic Professional Ghana (PPG), the group of professionals from various fields of profession have since 2014 been spearheading the need for patriotism.
Speaking on the theme ‘Mobilise and Empower through Patriotism’, Mr Anim who is also the Member of Parliament for Trobu advised the media against the use of divisive language.
He also advised members of advocacy group to tread cautiously in their advocacy activities, and underscored the need for them to conduct themselves properly.
“On your road to mobilizing and empowering through patriotism be noted that your professional background plays a critical role. Allow your professionalism to lead the path and stick to your principles”, he urged them.
President of the group, Eric Nartey Yeaboah said the group seeks to reignite the spirit of patriotism in Ghanaians, saying “We are a group made of professionals, each contributing efforts into a big pull to fuel the armoury of patriotism.
He assured Ghanaians of their commitment to the cause of patriotism and called for a collective and concerted effort in inculcating the spirit of patriotism in Ghanaians.
“This is where PPI Ghana comes in. We would work assiduously to ensure that the citizenry do not only practice patriotism but will understand the need for it. Let us join hands as a people to rally ourselves behind our country, love our country and love the people in it – that’s the mark of patriotism,” he said.
He said the group not only we engages in advocacy but also humanitarian activities.
Over the years, he said the group has organized health screening and provided medical drugs to over 50,000 Ghanaians across the country, provided skill training for over 1,500 women and given them with start-up capital to cushion them.
“We see that helping the underprivileged is one surest way we could get them to become patriotic,” he added.
Present at the re-launch event were the Deputy Greater Accra Regional Minister, Elizabeth Sackey, the Member of Parliament for Ablekuma Central, Ebenezer Nartey and an elder of the group Esther Ofori
