President John Dramani Mahama on behalf of government has declared three days of national mourning to pay tribute to former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings.

The former First Lady died on Thursday, October 23 after a short illness.

In honour of her, President Mahama says a national mourning should begin from Friday, October 24 to Sunday, October 26.

“During this period, all national flags shall fly at half-mast at all public buildings, diplomatic missions, and government installations throughout the country and abroad,” a statement from the Presidency on Friday said, stressing that this is in recognition of her distinguished service to the nation.

Signed by the Minister of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, who is also Member of Parliament for Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese Constituency, the statement said Mrs Rawlings served the country with “dedication and commitment, particularly in women’s empowerment, child welfare, and social development”.

“The Government extends its deepest condolences to the family, her children, and all who mourn this irreplaceable loss.”
