Former President John Dramani Mahama will officially kick-start activities marking his reentry effort into the Jubilee House as Ghana’s President at a town in the Volta Region.
The event is scheduled to take place at the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) in Sokode near Ho.
The former president on Tuesday invited the general public to the launch that is expected to be streamed live on his Facebook and Youtube handles.
“Fellow countrymen and women, I will on Thursday March 02, 2023 launch my bid to lead the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to the 2024 elections at the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) in Sokode near Ho,” the former president posted on Facebook.
Mr. Mahama last week delegated his former contender for the NDC flagbeaership slot to pick his nomination forms for him when the party opened nominations last week Wednesday.
Professor Joshua Alabi who is a former Rector of the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), after picking the forms, told journalists that Ghanaians are yearning for the National Democratic Congress to form the next government, claiming the Akufo-Addo-led government has failed.
“We are here to pick up the forms for his HE John Dramani Mahama. As you are aware we are in very difficult times in this country, the economy is in shambles, people are suffering and the summary here is that people are crying for the NDC to come back.
“The NDC has gone through all its structures, and elections, it is time to come for the flagbearer to deliver the 2024 elections.”
John Mahama stood for election in 2012 after serving as president for six months following the death of former President John Evans Atta Mills.
He won the election and served as president for four years. However, he lost the seat to President Akufo-Addo of the NPP in 2016.
Although some had discouraged him, John Mahama returned in 2020 as the NDC flagbearer but lost again. His supporters are hoping that the 2024 election will go in his favour.
