Mfantsipim School emerged champions of the 2025 National Science & Maths Quiz (NSMQ) after beating St Augustine’s College and Opoku Ware School in the final on Thursday.
The all-boys-schools final at the New Examination Center (NEC) of the University of Cape Coast (UCC) lived up to the billing as thousands witnessed the encounter.
Ghana’s oldest secondary school led in Round 1as they made their intentions of defending the title they won last year clear.
They led by 3 points as they had a total of 20 as against 17 each for regional rivals Augusco and OWASS.
Augusco turned the corner in Round 2 as they amassed 10 more points to the total tally from Round 1. Kwabotwe had 4 more while the Ashanti Region school, popularly known as Akatakyie, added no more to their tally.
Kwabotwe, as Mfantsipim are popularly known, reclaimed their lead after the Problem of the Day. With a total of 30 points against 29 and 19 for Augusco and OWASS respectively at the end of Round 3, they never looked back.
Despite a 1-point difference in Round 3, they moved from a 4-point difference at the end of Round 4 to a 14-point difference at the end of the final round.
Mfantsipim ended the contest with a total of 56 points while Augusco trailed second with 42 points and OWASS third with 29 points.
The winners take home a total of GHC70,000 for the school, contestants and their teachers.
