The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP) has hosted an end-of-year Christmas party for children, bringing together beneficiaries from care homes, basic schools and partner institutions for a day of celebration in Accra.
The colourful event, held at the Efua Sutherland Children’s Park, was led by the sector minister, Dr Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, who described the gathering as an expression of gratitude and a reaffirmation of the government’s commitment to child welfare and social protection.
Addressing children, caregivers and stakeholders, Dr Lartey thanked God for seeing the country through 2025, a year she said began with transition and concluded with renewed hope. She noted that the Christmas season was an important reminder to children under the Ministry’s care that they are loved, remembered and supported.
“Christ is the Father to the fatherless and the mother to the motherless. Today, we want the children to know they are not alone,” she said, urging them to see the gathering as a family built on care and belonging.
The programme featured games, music, dancing, bouncing castles and shared meals, drawing visible excitement and joy from participating children.
Dr Lartey stressed that the party formed part of a broader child protection strategy, including routine visits to care homes and continuous social support initiatives. She also encouraged parents and guardians to utilise government interventions such as the LEAP and School Feeding programmes to support children’s education and wellbeing.
Children from selected basic schools and partner institutions, alongside organisations including UNHCR and SOS Children’s Village, took part in the event.
