Parliament is starting debate on the 2026 budget statement and government’s economic policy for the year ending December 31, 2026.
The budget was presented on Thursday, November 13 by Minister of Finance Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, who is also a Member of Parliament (MP) for Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam Constituency.
Themed ‘Resetting for Growth, Jobs and Economic Transformation’, the budget was presented as per Article 179 of the 1992 Constitution and Section 21 of the Public Financial Management Act, 2016 (Act 921).
Both the Majority and Minority members agreed to defer debate to Tuesday after spending a relatively longer period in the House on Friday due to the consideration of the Appointments Committee report on the vetting of the Chief Justice nominee Paul Baffoe-Bonnie.
The delay also helped MPs to be taken through a workshop on the statement prior to the debate.
Starting the debate on the floor on Tuesday, November 18 was MP for Bolgatanga Central Constituency Isaac Adongo.
