Murder: Minority charges police to pursue Bugri Naabu

Mr Bugri Naabu

The Minority in Parliament is convinced the Northern Regional chairman of the governing party, Daniel Bugri Naabu has opened his mouth wide enough to be invited to give evidence in the murder of Adams Mahama.

The former New Patriotic Party Upper East Regional chairman was gruesomely murdered in 2015 in an acid attack. Some people are standing trial for the murder including Gregory Afoko, brother of NPP’s suspended National Chairman.

Following last week’s a mudslinging incident between Bugri Naabu and Otiko Afisa Djaba who is the Minister of Gender and Social Protection, the former accused the latter, as well as the Upper East Regional Minister and Builsa District Chief Executive of plotting the murder of Adams Mahama.

The Regional Minister has denied the allegation and issued a 48-hour ultimatum to the maverick regional chairman to retract and apologise, which elapses today, May 10.

But the Minority Leader in Parliament, Haruna Iddrisu wants the police to take interest in the latest disclosure by Bugri Naabu.

“Mr Naabu had alleged that the three had had series of secret meetings at which the plot to murder Mr Adams, the Upper East Regional Chairman was hatched,” he said in the statement.

“We in the Minority consider these developments as a grave concern as they pose a veritable threat to our democracy and good governance.”

According to him, the development is crucial to the determination of the matter currently pending before the court.

Otiko Afisa Djaba

“Mr Naabu’s allegations have widespread implications for the delivery of justice in the matter of the murder of the Upper East Regional Chairman.

“In any true democratic system, Mr Naabu’s pronouncement should have elicited immediate action from state actors especially the Ghana Police and President Akufo Addo,” Mr. Iddrisu stated.

“We in the Minority are calling for an immediate invitation from the Police to Mr Naabu to assist the Police with his evidence in respect of the murder of the Upper East Regional Chairman… We are by this asking that they invite all those whose names have been mentioned in connection with the scandal.”

He accused the president, Nana Akufo-Addo of failing as a human right activist to take “concrete action” on the matter, adding that the “loud silence” of the President was “shocking”

Vindication

The statement by the Minority Leader also noted that the National Democratic Congress’ MPs were right when they resisted the appointment of the Gender Minister after she was deemed to have insulted former President John Mahama.

“As matters stand now, the Minority stands vindicated for its earlier opposition to the appointment of Otiko Djaba as a Minister of State.

“We demand an action from the President now else his inaction will confirm the view in the public domain that this is a double standard and substandard government.”
