The Deputy Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Dr. Ziblim Iddi has reiterated government’s commitment to preserve the Atewa forest reserve.
At the unveiling of the official music video for the preservation campaign, the minister said the campaign will save the depleting forest from galamsey activities.
The Atewa forest in the Kwaebibirem district of the Eastern region is one of Ghana’s rich ecotourist reserves.
The forest has over the years come under threat from illegal mining activities as well as illegal chain-saw lumbering.
The government recently announced plans to halt bauxite mining in the reserve.
As part of efforts to curb the menace, the Netherlands Embassy together with the US Embassy and A-Rocha Ghana, has embarked on a nationwide campaign to drum home the message of saving the forest and water bodies.
An official music video has therefore been unveiled to bring to the fore the importance and the need to preserve the Atewa forest.
Deputy Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Dr. Ziblim Iddi said the initiative will make the forest a hub of investment.
He cautioned Ghanaians against putting personal interest above national interest.
MUSIGA President, Bice Osei Kuffour emphasised on the tourism potentials of the Atewa forest.
In attendance were key stakeholders from the Water Resource Commission and celebrity ambassadors MzVee, Kuami Eugene, Kojo Rana, Nero X, among others.
Deputy Minister of Lands and Natural resources, Barbara Oteng-Gyasi maintained that government will ensure the fight against galamsey menace is sustained.
