Baba Jamal Mohammed Ahmed, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for the Ayawaso East Constituency, has denied allegations of vote buying following the party’s recent parliamentary primaries.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Baba Jamal said his attention had been drawn to a communiqué announcing his recall as Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria. The notice, signed by the spokesperson to the President and Minister for Government Communication, cited allegations of vote buying during the primaries in Ayawaso East.
The statement also referenced a separate release by the NDC’s General Secretary, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, which condemned the allegations and called for an investigation.
Baba Jamal categorically rejected the claims, insisting he did not engage in vote buying or any form of electoral malpractice. He said he was prepared to make himself fully available to assist the party with investigations into the matter.
“I have not engaged in any vote buying or election malpractices,” Baba Jamal said, pledging his cooperation with any internal processes undertaken by the party.
He expressed gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama for the opportunity to serve Ghana as High Commissioner to Nigeria, describing it as an honour to represent the country at the diplomatic level.
Baba Jamal also thanked members of the NDC in the Ayawaso East Constituency for the confidence reposed in him to lead the party into the forthcoming parliamentary by-election, scheduled for March 3, 2026.
The controversy comes as political parties prepare for the by-election, with heightened scrutiny on campaign conduct and internal party discipline.
