The National Chairman of the ruling political party, the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Freddie Blay, has accused the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) of fuelling tension in some polling stations in the Banda Constituency of Bono Region.
The National Chairman said the NDC failed to adhere to the agreement signed by these two main political parties on the registration in some polling centres; hence the tension in Banda.
A video that went viral showed some military men preventing people from registering at some registration centres in the ongoing exercise.
Reacting to the development on Onua TV’s Maakye hosted by Bright Kwasi Asempa and Adwoa Konadu-Yiadom, the NPP National Chairman said “the two major parties in the constituency agreed that they should not allow people to go and register in those polling stations”.
“They also agreed that it should be the military to prevent people from trooping to the centres but contrary to the agreement, the NDC started bussing people to these polling stations,” he said on Wednesday.
Mr. Blay accused the former president, John Mahama, who is also the NDC flagbearer for the 2020 election, of fuelling the mayhem because he has been going round preaching ethnocentric politics.
“The former president has no mercy for the people of Ghana. He should come out with evidence instead of spewing statements without any evidence,” he urged.
“I am not the one to provide him with evidence”.
EC registration exercise
Commenting on the registration exercise in general, Mr Blay said the EC must be applauded because it has done the work to perfection.
“The registration has been successful and I think the EC must be congratulated despite the Covid-19”.
