The Northern Regional Police Command says it has arrested three men suspected in the kidnapping of a 42-year-old resident of Wapuli in the Yendi District, following an intelligence-led operation that included a firefight and a covert rescue mission.
Police identified the suspects as Haruna Seidu, Amidu Bandi and Osman Bandi. They are believed to be part of a four-member syndicate accused of abducting the victim and demanding a ransom of GH₵100,000 from his family, according to a statement issued by the command’s public affairs office.
Authorities say the operation began after the victim’s relatives reported the abduction. A five-member team from the Regional Police Intelligence Directorate of the Ghana Police Service was dispatched to Wapuli for surveillance, rescue and arrest efforts.

The victim was rescued on Friday, Dec. 5, after what police described as an “intensive gun-fire exchange” with the alleged kidnappers in Bokpaba, a village along the Bimbilla–Yendi stretch of the Eastern Corridor. Officers arrested three of the suspects at the scene.
The fourth suspect escaped and is believed to have sustained gunshot wounds, police said. Authorities are urging the public to provide any information that could aid in his capture.
The three arrested men are in police custody and are expected to be arraigned in court in the coming days.
In the statement, signed by C/Insp. Alhassan Luckman Niendow, the Northern Regional Police emphasized that community cooperation remains critical in combating kidnapping and organized crime in the region.
Police said further updates would be provided as the investigation continues.
