Former flagbearer aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng has raised concerns about the intimidation that characterised the last primaries of the party.
He said that intimidation led to the abysmal performance of the party in the 2024 general elections.
The former Minister of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation further expressed frustrations why the cause of the party’s embarrassing defeat in the last elections has not come up for discussions.
“When you raise it, they say it is in a report, which is with the party executives,” he said on Accra-based UTV on Monday, January 19.
“They will tell you the report should not come out and so on. Is this how we are heading into the next elections?”
He said the intimidation seems to continue ahead of the January 31 elections as already some delegates have been threatened with the removal of their names from the register if they wouldn’t vote for a particular candidate.
He cited how two regional chairman have resolved to ensure that Dr Mahamudu Bawumia wins the primaries.
“The party headquarters is more or less an extension of his campaign office,” he stressed, adding that the remaining candidates have no right whatsoever to go post their posters at the campaign office as it pertains now.
Prof Frimpong-Boateng demanded the mass resignation of all the executives who superintended over the abysmal defeat in the 2024 polls.
