The Bono Region NPP Council of Elders have endorsed former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to be elected the party Flagbearer for the 2028 elections.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on the sidelines of a regional council of elders meeting in Sunyani, the Chairman of the Regional elders, Mr. James Kofi Kyeremeh disclosed that 16 out of 18 council members were solidly behind Dr Bawumia, whom he spoke highly of and described as the most suitable candidate.
Citing his strong economic background and visionary leadership, the chairman of the Regional Council of Elders urged the party’s delegates to make informed decisions and endorse Dr Bawumia in the supreme interest of the party, adding that such a choice would enhance the NPP’s chances of retaining power in 2028.
“Combined with his digitalization agenda, Alhaji Dr. Bawumia can drive rapid industrialization when he becomes the next president,” Mr. Kyeremeh added.
While acknowledging that all five aspirants possessed valuable experience, Mr Kyeremeh maintained that the nation’s transformation hinged primarily on sound economic management.
“We therefore need a president who understands the dynamics and intricacies of economics to stabilize the economy and create a better society for all,” he said.
Nana Atta Fena, a member of both the Bono Regional Council of Elders and the Bawumia Regional Campaign Team, also highlighted Dr Bawumia’s loyalty, integrity, and strong grassroots appeal as qualities that make him the ideal choice.
“He has built a solid support base for himself, and we are confident our loyal delegates will endorse him for a resounding victory in 2028,” Nana Fena said.
Another elder, Mr Yaw Dabie Appiah Mensah, a founding member of the NPP in Sunyani West, urged delegates to remain loyal and vote massively for Dr Bawumia in the upcoming primary.
