One person has been confirmed dead and four are in critical condition after an accident involving some members of the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) in Obuasi.
The accident is said to have occurred on Wednesday, November 19 near the Obuasi Airport area.
The accident occurred while the team was undertaking a major anti-galamsey operation aimed at curbing the menace of illegal mining within the enclave, the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources said in a statement.
“The Minister extends his profound sympathies to the family of our fallen colleague and conveys his heartfelt wishes for a swift recovery to the injured team members,” the statement indicated.
The injured are receiving medical care.
The Ministry has announced that a full-scale investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident will be conducted.
“We remain steadfast in our commitment to safeguarding the welfare of all frontline personnel and will ensure they receive the utmost support and care,” concluded the statement signed by Paa Kwesi Schandorf, the Media Relations Officer at the Ministry.
