One-time suspended National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Paul Awentami Afoko has declared his intention to run again for the same position.
“This decision has not been taken lightly,” he noted in a statement issued on Tuesday, October 28.
“It comes after careful consideration and in response to the consistent calls for renewed leadership rooted in the founding values and democratic ideals of our party.”
Mr Afoko, together with his then First Vice Chairman Sammy Crabbe and General Secretary Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, was suspended in 2015 for allegedly sabotaging the fortunes of then Presidential Candidate Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo ahead of the 2016 presidential elections.
He had since not been at the forefront of any party activities and not visible throughout the eight years of Nana Akufo-Addo-led government.
“My commitment to the NPP has remained steadfast through the years, and I believe the time has come to contribute, once again, to the rebuilding and strengthening of our party at this critical juncture,” he observed.
He concedes that the journey has not been without trials but he has always focused on unity and progress of the NPP.
“My focus now, as it has always been, is on the future – one where our party stands re-energised, inclusive, and better positioned to deliver on its promises to the Ghanaian people.”
He has served notice of sharing his vision, ideas and plans with all in the coming weeks as he seeks to lead the NPP with “integrity, transparency and a renewed sense of purpose”.
