The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has announced that former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta as well as former Commissioners-General of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) cited for corruption and corruption-related offences will be arraigned before court on Monday, November 24.
The OSP has charged these persons, eight in all, with a total of 78 charges.
The first Commissioner-General appointed by then President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in his government, Emmanuel Kofi Nti, has been slapped with most of the charges.
The charges are related to a contract signed between GRA and Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited (SML).
Mr Kofi Nti has 39 charges of corruption and corruption-related offences slapped on him.
Mr Ofori-Atta, who was declared a fugitive by the OSP and put on Interpol Red Notice, follows with 28 charges.
On 19 each are former Commissioner of the Customs Division of GRA Isaac Crentsil and Chief Executive of SML Evans Adusei.
The OSP slapped 18 charges on SML itself and then 12 on a former chef de cabinet at the Finance Ministry, Ernest Darko Akore.
Former GRA Commissioner-General Reverend Dr. Ammishaddai Owusu-Amoah was charged with 10 counts and Member of Parliament for Jaman South, Col. Kwadwo Damoah, who was a Commissioner for the Customs Division, also faces 8 counts, the least in the case.
“The prosecution will seek the necessary court orders for service of the charge sheet on the fugitives who are outside of the jurisdiction,” OSP said in a release on Thursday, November 20.
