Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II is set to submit his report on the mediation of the Bawku chieftaincy dispute to President John Dramani Mahama for further action.
The Asantehene concluded mediation on Monday, December 1 after convening a meeting of the factions, who had a face-to-face interaction.
“The meeting was held in a cordial atmosphere with both sides emphasising the fact that they are one people who had no reason to be at war with each other,” a statement issued by Manhyia Palace on Monday said.
Signed by Chief of Staff Kofi Badu, the statement mentioned that the face-to-face meeting was held at the Jubilee Hall of the Palace in Kumasi.
Chief Tarana John Wuni Grumah, Paramount Chief of Tarana Traditional Area and spokesperson of the Naayiri, led a 30-member delegation to represent His Majesty Naa Bohugu Mahami Abdulai Sheriga, the Naayiri and Overlord of the Mamprugu and Mamprusis while Naba Tambis Baalug, Paramount Chief of Pusiga, led the delegation representing the Bawku Naaba Zugraan Asigri Aburgrago Azoka II and the Kusasi people.
Pusiga Member of Parliament Cletus Apuul Avoka served as Spokesperson for the Kusasi delegation while Dr Issah acted as same for the Naayiri and the Mamprusis.
The statement said the Asantehene allowed both parties to speak directly to each other in the final effort “to explore a pathway to lasting resolution of the issues that have persistently undermined the peace in the Bawku Traditional Area”.
Otumfuo thanked both factions for their “civility” and “maturity” to coexist as brothers and sisters irrespective of the outcome of mediation.
He urged the leaders to start preparing the minds of their supporters to be prepared to put an end permanently to violence and disorder in their communities.
The Asantehene disclosed that he will make his report available to President Mahama in a few days.
He hoped that the President will act expeditiously and convene a formal meeting of all stakeholders to announce the outcome of his mediation.
