Parliament on Friday, December 19 passed three bills to reverse the renaming of some three universities in the erstwhile Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo government.
The tthree universities are C. K. Tedam University of Technology and Applied Sciences, S. D. Dombo University of Business and Integrated Development Studies and Akenten Appiah-Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development.
By the amendments to the three bills, C. K. Tedam University of Technology and Applied Sciences was changed to University of Technology and Applied Sciences, Navrongo, S. D. Dombo University of Business and Integrated Development Studies changed to University of Business and Integrated Development Studies, Wa and Akenten Appiah Appiah-Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development changed to University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development, Kumasi.
The amendments were submitted by the Committee of Education of the ninth Parliament.
But they were laid by the Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, in accordance to Article 106(1) of the 1992 Constitution and Standing Order 159(3) of Parliament.
The Minority kicked against the move but Majority Leader, Mahama Ayariga, said the decision to change the names was taken “long time ago”.
