Several fuel tankers and other properties were consumed by a ravaging fire at a tanker yard near the Ashaiman Timber Market Sunday afternoon.
It is not clear what actually caused the fire, but preliminary investigations by the Ghana National Fire Service suggest that it might have been caused by a transfer of fuel from one tanker to another.
A total of 12 tankers out of the about 26 in the yard were completely burnt with fire fighters going through a tough time to bring the inferno under control. About 14 fire engines and a turntable ladder were deployed to the scene and with the support of the Ghana Ports and Harbour Authority and Tema Oil Refinery they were able to totally quench the raging fire.
Meanwhile, the Ghana National Fire Service has dismissed reports of deaths as a result of the fire outbreak.
