Police in Ghana’s Central East Region have arrested 33 suspects and impounded 45 motorbikes following a series of intelligence-led anti-crime swoop operations conducted ahead of the festive season, authorities said Friday.
The Central East Regional Police Command said the targeted operations were carried out in the early hours of Dec. 16 and 17, 2025, across several communities, including Kasoa Old Market, Awutu Breku, Gomoa Buduata, Senya Beraku and surrounding areas. The exercise forms part of intensified efforts to curb criminal activity before, during and after the Christmas and New Year festivities.
According to the police, some of the suspects were found in possession of substances suspected to be Indian hemp and quantities of the opioid drug tramadol. Officers also retrieved a toy gun during the operation.
In addition, 45 motorbikes were seized, with police saying verification and documentation checks are ongoing to determine their ownership and compliance with road regulations. All arrested suspects are currently being screened as part of investigations, and those found culpable will be arraigned before court.
The Regional Command urged members of the public to remain security-conscious during the festive period, advising against carrying large sums of money and encouraging people to move in groups, especially at night. Motorbike riders were reminded to wear crash helmets, while motorists were cautioned to avoid drunk-driving, overspeeding and other traffic violations.
Police also advised residents to avoid moving alone in secluded areas and to comply with all road traffic regulations to reduce risks during the holidays.
The Command expressed appreciation to traditional authorities, community leaders and residents for their cooperation in maintaining law and order throughout the year. It also commended police officers in the region for their commitment to effective policing.
The Central East Regional Police Command assured the public of its readiness to ensure a safe, crime-free festive season, warning that anyone who engages in criminal activity will be arrested and face the full rigours of the law.
