Police have arrested a suspect in connection with a daylight armed robbery at a jewellery shop in Adabraka, Accra, during which GH¢7.5 million was stolen on November 2, 2024.
The Ghana Police Service said the arrest followed months of sustained, intelligence-led operations by the Office of the Special Operations Assistant to the Inspector-General of Police. The suspect, identified as Salim Mohammed, also known as Fariwata, was arrested on November 20, 2025, at a hospital in Ashaiman, where he had gone to seek medical attention.
According to police, the stolen money represented proceeds from a gold transaction that were being transported to a bank at the time of the attack. Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect and his accomplices, armed with AK-47 assault rifles, intercepted the victim’s vehicle and fired several shots to disperse members of the public.
Police said the driver of the vehicle sustained injuries during the robbery, after which the assailants fled with the cash.
The suspect is currently in police custody assisting with investigations, while efforts have been intensified to track down the remaining accomplices and recover the stolen funds.
The Ghana Police Service has appealed to the public to provide credible information that could lead to the arrest of the other suspects, urging anyone with relevant details to report to the nearest police station as investigations continue.
