Police have arrested a suspect in connection with the robbery and killing of an officer earlier this month in Zebilla, authorities said in a statement.
The arrest followed a special operation ordered by Christian Tetteh Yohuno, Inspector-General of Police, after the fatal incident on 8 February in the Upper East Region.
The suspect, Simon Apusiga, also known as Ananga, 42, was apprehended on 10 February during an intelligence-led raid at his hideout in the Tarkwa Huni Valley area. Investigators said preliminary findings indicate he fled Zebilla shortly after the attack and was tracked to the Western Region, where he was arrested.
Police said Apusiga remains in custody assisting with enquiries and will be arraigned before court. Authorities added that operations have been intensified to locate and arrest other suspects believed to be connected to the killing.
In a statement signed by Brigitte Babanawo, Public Relations Officer of the Criminal Investigation Department, officials reaffirmed their commitment to pursuing all those responsible.
The police did not disclose details about the slain officer or the circumstances of the robbery, citing ongoing investigations, but assured the public that further updates would be provided as the case develops.
