The Accra Regional Police Intelligence Unit has arrested a 29-year-old man in connection with the robbery of a delivery rider at Tantra Hill in Accra, police announced at a press briefing.
The incident occurred on Thursday, December 11, 2025, when a courier rider operating on the Bolt platform received a delivery request from an eatery in Achimota to a location at Tantra Hill. Police said that upon arriving at the delivery point, the rider was confronted by two men riding on a motorbike.
According to the police, one of the suspects wielded a machete and struck the rider on the back with the blunt side of the weapon, threatening to kill him if he resisted. Fearing for his life, the victim surrendered his motorbike and a Samsung A05 mobile phone. He sustained injuries to his left hand during the attack and later reported the incident to the police.
Following investigations and intelligence-led operations, officers from the Accra Regional Intelligence Unit arrested a suspect identified as Akwesi Atanzori, aged 29, on Friday, December 12, 2025, at Agbogbloshie. Police said the suspect was apprehended while attempting to sell the stolen motorbike.
During interrogation, Atanzori admitted his involvement in the robbery and named an accomplice, identified only as Shadrach, who remains at large. Police said efforts were underway to locate and arrest the second suspect to assist with ongoing investigations.
The stolen motorbike has since been retrieved and retained as an exhibit for evidential purposes. Investigations into the robbery continue, police said.
The Accra Regional Police Command reiterated its commitment to maintaining law and order and combating violent crime within the metropolis. The Command urged delivery riders and members of the public to remain vigilant, particularly when responding to delivery requests or operating in unfamiliar areas.
Police further encouraged the public to promptly report suspicious behaviour or persons to the nearest police station to aid crime prevention and detection.
Speaking on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police and the Accra Regional Police Command, officials assured residents of heightened security measures across the region, especially during the festive season.
The Command also extended season’s greetings to residents of Accra and the wider Ghanaian public, wishing them a peaceful Christmas and a safe and productive 2026.
