The Ghana Police Service has warned holders of registered firearm to beware of the regulations guiding discharge.
The Service observed that possessing a registered firearm must be in conformity with the Firearms Act, 1962 (Act 118).
This admonition comes after the police arrested suspect Abubakari Sadick, popularly known as Cyborg, for discharging a high-calibre firearm at the AfroFuture Festival held at the El-Wak Sports Stadium.
His action was captured in a viral video on Sunday.
He was subsequently arrested on Monday, December 29 at Adenta for violating not only Act 118 but also the Public Order Act, 1994 (Act 491).
“The suspect is currently in police custody, assisting with investigations, and will be brought before court to face justice,” the police said in a statement announcing Cyborg’s arrest.
They cautioned: “The Ghana Police Service wishes to caution the general public that possessing a registered firearm does not give the holder the right to discharge it indiscriminately.
“Firearms licences can be revoked and the individual can be charged accordingly.”
