Prime Minister Dr. the Most Honourable Andrew Michael Holness received Honourable Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Member of Parliament, in a bilateral meeting focused on strengthening ties between Jamaica and Ghana.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Holness conveyed his deep appreciation to the President of the Republic of Ghana, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, through the Minister for Foreign Affairs, for the timely assistance and solidarity extended to Jamaica in the aftermath of Hurricane Melissa. “The gesture shown by Ghana will always be treasured,” the Prime Minister remarked.
The discussions also explored labour mobility from Ghana to Jamaica, aiming to enhance employment opportunities and skills exchange between the two countries. Both parties agreed to initiate a Ghana-Jamaica Defence Cooperation Agreement to bolster security collaboration.
In addition, the meeting highlighted business opportunities for Ghanaian companies, as Jamaica plans to embark on a major infrastructural revamp. Prime Minister Holness pledged his full support for President Mahama’s United Nations resolution seeking recognition of the transatlantic slave trade as the greatest crime against humanity and advocating for reparations.
The engagement underscored the shared commitment to solidarity, economic collaboration, and historical justice, signalling a deepening of bilateral relations between Ghana and Jamaica.
