Persons who have bought or built on lands near Michel camp in the Kpone Katamanso District of the Greater Accra Region without recourse to the Gbetsile Stool, have been warned to regularise same or risk a possible demolition.
According to the chief, Nii Teye Kojo I and his elders, the Gbetsile lands are purely stool lands and not family lands as unsuspecting buyers are made to believe.
“We want to set the record straight that Gbetsile lands are stool lands, are owned solely by the Gbetsile Stool. So if any person or group of persons intend to buy or lease a piece of land in Gbetsile, the person must come to the Stool,” the chief advised.
Addressing a news conference, Nii Kojo I said the about 600 acres of their land bounded by Appolonia which Zoomlion and Sino Africa Development claimed to have procured and walled, were not released by the Gbetsile Stool who are the custodians.
“We want to state clearly here that the said land has not been released or given to Zoomlion or Sino Africa Development,” he stated.
The chief has meanwhile asked all those who have built on or bought lands in the area from anyone other the Gbetsile Stool, and do not have legitimate documents, to report to the Stool for formalisation and regularisation.
“The Gbetsile Stool therefore entreats all residents of Gbetsile who have built on parcels or portions of Gbetsile lands but do not have documents from the Stool to report to the Gbetsile Stool immediately for regularization of their interest in the lands.
“It must be noted that any person or group of persons who fail to comply would have themselves to blame when the stool institutes a Court action against them, and there is an order for demolition of their buildings,” Nii Kojo warned.
Land guards
Meanwhile, the chief and his elders have warned land guards who have been terrorising residents and legitimate land owners, especially around their boundary with Appolonia, to stay off to avoid trouble.
They said activities of these land guards, including robberies and rape, have put residents in fear, noting though it has been reported to the Ghana Police, no arrest has been made so far.
“We call on the police to intensify their security patrols around the community and to protect lives and property and to also prosecute persons who are found culpable,” Nii Kojo I appealed.
