The National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat has intensified its crackdown on illegal mining with a sweeping operation along the Akyem Oda corridor, officials said Monday.
The day-long raid on Dec. 8 targeted major galamsey hotspots as task-force teams conducted coordinated patrols across the Eastern Region. Authorities said the operation dealt a “decisive blow” to illegal miners and reinforced the government’s push to reclaim damaged forests and rivers.
NAIMOS officials reported that the offensive is part of a sustained national campaign aimed at dismantling entrenched illegal mining networks and restoring environmentally threatened areas.
