The desperation for recognition by the Member of Parliament (MP) of Assin North, Rev. Ntim Fordjour, demeans the seriousness expected of an MP.
The Man of God, has been in the news lately for all the wrong reasons. The Minority in Parliament, led by Rev. Ntim Fordjour, on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, has raised several security concerns, including allegations of drug and cash smuggling through private jets, the mysterious disappearance of 12 containers filled with gold and cash, and a reported pirate attack on a Ghanaian fishing vessel.
Addressing a press conference in Parliament Rev. Ntim Fordjour specifically mentioned two private aircraft—AirMed flight N823AM and Cavok Air—which reportedly landed at Kotoka International Airport in March 2025 carrying suspicious cargo believed to be cocaine and cash.
The allegation, would have been amusing but for its reputational damage. The Reverend turned politician is bent on taking a route that is needless, because it won’t yield the desired result and hence should not even be contemplated.
It is said that, he who alleges must prove. Rev. Ntim Fordjour, since the press conference and subsequent appearance on radio and Television, has failed to make available any shred of evidence, except to say, it is an allegation and yet he goes round defending it.
Parliament is an institution that prides itself on being a “distinguished” forum, with men and women of impeccable character, charged with making laws for the country’s good governance, and persons who belong to that arm of government, should hold itself to a higher standard.
There is no doubt that crisis of disinformation is bothering nations around the world. In Ghana, false information, pranks, rumours, digitally-altered video and photos that purport to show actions or speech that did not happen, have become a rising threat.
It is in view of this that this paper is calling on Ghanaians, especially politicians to always verify their information before dishing them out to the public.
We are strongly of the opinion that, the government should not only fish out perpetrators of fake news, but also ensure that they are made to face the full wrath of the law.
The damage this unverified information is likely to cause, will not only affect the government of John Dramani Mahama, but the entire nation and Ghanaians, who are living outside the country.
Drug trafficking and money laundering, are serious crimes that must not be played politics with.
