The Minister for Roads, Transport and Highways, Hon. Kwame Agbodza, on Tuesday inaugurated a 15-member Board of Trustees for the Road Maintenance Trust Fund, calling Small and Medium Contractors the “backbone” of Ghana’s routine road upkeep.
Agbodza praised the contractors for their quiet but essential work, noting that tasks such as filling potholes, clearing drains and keeping road corridors safe often go unnoticed despite their impact on communities nationwide. He said the government is committed to ensuring SMCs receive timely payments and the necessary institutional support to sustain their operations.

“Our goal is to ensure they get the support they deserve,” Agbodza said during the ceremony, adding that strengthening the Fund’s governance was critical to improving the country’s overall road network.
The newly sworn-in board includes representatives from engineering, legal, financial and civil society fields, tasked with guiding the Fund’s policies, ensuring accountability and advancing government initiatives aimed at maintaining safer, more reliable roads.
Hon. Isaac Adjei Mensah will chair the board.
Agbodza urged members to work collaboratively and uphold high standards as the ministry expands road rehabilitation and maintenance programs across Ghana.
