Sege NDC Branch Executives appeal to President Mahama for constituency representation in government appointments

By Paul Mamattah

A group known as Concerned Branch Executives of the Sege Constituency of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has called on President John Dramani Mahama to prioritize the appointment of qualified individuals from their Constituency to key government roles.

The group, argued that such recognition would bolster party cohesion, motivate grassroots supporters, and amplify the NDC’s electoral gains in the area.

Addressing a press conference in Sege of the Greater Accra region, the Convenor of the group, Albert Narh Adodoadji, emphasized the Constituency’s longstanding loyalty to the NDC, citing its delivery of over 80percent of Presidential votes to President Mahama in the 2024 general election.

Despite this demonstrated allegiance, Mr Adodoadji lamented the absence of Sege professionals in significant regional or national positions, describing it as a disconnect between the Constituency’s contributions and its political rewards.

“Our community’s qualified professionals remain largely absent from governmental roles. Sege boasts some of the most educated constituency executives in Ghana, including lecturers, medical doctors, and lawyers. Yet, no one has been tapped for appointments that match their expertise.” Mr Adodoadji stated.

The appeal referenced repeated assurances by President Mahama, including a pledge made during the 2024 campaign to integrate former Sege MP Christian Corletey Otuteye into his administration.

President Mahama had commended Otuteye for backing the current MP, Daniel Bessey, a move credited with securing the NDC’s decisive victory in the Constituency.

Similar promises were reportedly made during a 2020 engagement with traditional leaders in Ada and at a rally in Bonikope in the Ada West District.

Mr Adodoadji warned that unaddressed exclusion risks fostering disillusionment. “Unfulfilled promises erode trust,” he said, noting that the lack of representation could stall development initiatives tailored to Sege’s needs and demoralize the youth, who form the backbone of the NDC’s campaign efforts.

The group, urged President Mahama and NDC leadership to honour commitments by appointing Mr Otuteye and other qualified Sege professionals to strategic roles.

They further proposed structured dialogues between the Presidency and local leaders to identify capable candidates, stressing that inclusivity would strengthen both the party and governance outcomes.

“Sege does not lack competent men and women. Our exclusion represents a missed opportunity for the NDC and Ghana.” Mr Adodoadji asserted.

The appeal underscores rising tensions within party strongholds over equitable representation, as the President Mahama administration faces pressure to balance merit with grassroots loyalty in its appointments.
