The Central Regional Police Command has arrested six juvenile offenders following a violent assault on Rexford Owusu-Ansah, a final-year student of Adisadel College, on 20 February 2026 at Pedu Junction, Cape Coast.
The suspects, all students of Aggrey Memorial Senior High School, were brought to the Kotokuraba Police Station by school authorities at 7:30 p.m. on the day of the incident. Initial investigations revealed that the attack occurred around 3:30 p.m., shortly after the inter-colleges sports festival at the Cape Coast Stadium. Owusu-Ansah and two friends were approached by the Aggrey Memorial students, who inquired about their school affiliation before launching a violent assault. His two friends escaped, but Owusu-Ansah was caught, kicked to the ground, beaten, and robbed of his iPhone 17 Pro Max, GH₵1,400 in cash, and shoes.
He was treated at the stadium clinic and later referred to the Cape Coast Regional Hospital, where he was discharged on 22 February 2026. Medical reports indicate a fractured nerve bone in his right eye, leaving him unable to open it, with the eyeball partially dislodged.
The Central Regional Police Command condemned the incident and emphasised that the juvenile offenders would face the full rigours of the law. Witnesses, including the victim’s friends, have identified the students involved, and investigations remain ongoing.
ASP Mr. Patrick Bentum, Acting Head of the Public Affairs Unit, urged calm and public cooperation while assuring strict enforcement of justice.
The Ghana Police Service reiterates its commitment to maintaining law and order and protecting citizens, particularly in school environments.
