Government has announced that a state funeral will be held for former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings on Friday, November 28.
The ceremony will be held at the Black Stars Square, the Presidency announced on Thursday.
“The state funeral is in recognition of Mrs Rawlings’ invaluable contributions to the advancement of the rights of women and children in Ghana, and national development,” a statement issued by the Minister of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, said.
Ghana’s First Lady between 1981 and 2001 died on Thursday, October 23 after a short illness.
President John Dramani Mahama on his visit to the bereaved family announced that she will be accorded a state funeral due to her contributions to national development.
He said works of the late First Lady is dotted all across the country.
Despite not being part of the government of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) due to her secession to found the National Democratic Party (NDC), the NDC, according to its National Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, consider her a founding member.
