The Ghana Police Service has rescued a young woman seen in a viral social media video with a severe injury to her left eye and crying out for help, and officers have arrested the suspect alleged to have assaulted her.
The operation was led by the IGP’s Special Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team, which acted after the video began circulating widely online early this week.
Police said the specialized team launched a rapid intelligence-driven search that traced the pair to Okushibri, near Apollonia, where officers found the victim and took the suspect, identified as Bright Kpodo also known as Horror into custody.
Preliminary findings indicate Kpodo, the victim’s partner, physically assaulted her, causing the visible injury captured in the video.
Authorities say the suspect is assisting with ongoing investigations, while the victim is receiving medical attention and psychosocial support through appropriate agencies, including coordination with the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection.
Police officials have condemned the attack and urged the public to continue reporting domestic violence cases promptly, stressing that early information allows law enforcement to intervene quickly and protect victims.
They added that swift public action, including sharing credible alerts with authorities, played a key role in the breakthrough.
