The Ghana Education Service has confirmed that its Teacher Promotion Examinations will proceed as scheduled next week, issuing detailed guidelines to clarify eligibility, examination arrangements and procedures for addressing omissions.
In a statement dated 26 December 2025, GES management said the examinations will be held over two days, beginning on Monday, 29 December. Assistant Director II and Principal Superintendent candidates are expected to write their papers from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon on the first day. Assistant Director I and Deputy Director candidates will sit their examinations at the same time on Tuesday, 30 December.
The Service said shortlisting was conducted strictly in line with approved eligibility criteria and required documentation, noting that some applications could not be considered as a result. All shortlisted candidates, GES said, have received official SMS notifications containing their staff ID, index number and designated examination centre.
In addition, official lists of shortlisted candidates and index numbers have been made available at regional education offices, municipal, metropolitan and district education offices, as well as at all designated examination centres. A consolidated list of eligible candidates will also be circulated to centres a day before the examinations begin.
GES stressed that only candidates who have received an official SMS or whose names appear on the shortlisted list are eligible to participate. Teachers who have not been issued an index number have been directed not to report to any examination centre, as the examinations will be conducted strictly by index number.
The Service outlined a process for special cases, particularly teachers who obtained their last promotion or upgrading in or before 2021 and meet all qualification requirements but were not shortlisted. Such candidates are required to submit copies of their last promotion or upgrading letters, along with evidence that they applied for the current promotion, to their respective regional education offices for rectification.
On examination day, candidates must present a valid national identification card and clearly indicate both their staff ID and index number on all examination papers.
GES has provided a dedicated phone line and email address for enquiries, urging candidates with challenges to seek clarification through official channels. Management appealed to all teachers to adhere strictly to the guidelines to ensure a smooth, credible and well-coordinated promotion exercise, adding that any further updates will be communicated only through official GES platforms.
The statement was signed by Professor Smile Dzisi, the acting deputy director-general in charge of management services.
